So I am currently a high school junior, i have really good grades and stuff and take a lot of social studies art and science. Guidance and NH upward Bound Program both say I have a lot of options because of how well I am with school. Today, they told me to start picking careers and such and I really think I am interested in counseling. Is it cool? How much do they make? How far can the degree work? What jobs can it get you? What are the cons? Everything, tell me everything please I am interested

Be prepared to go on to grad school! AND go into a field because it is of great interest to you! Money is so relative…what is enough? I taught for 5 years and then went on to grad school for an MA and then later, for an Ed Specialist degree in Guidance and Counseling. I worked with very troubled adolescents and loved the work.Take vocational interest tests…that can narrow down the field. Don’t make decision based upon income! Go into a field that INTERESTS YOU! ALSO, GO into a field that you are good at. Counseling is NOT TELLING a client–it is LISTENING to the client! Hearing what they are REALLY saying and what they really want. Listen to them and hear what they really want. Then you don’t TELL them, but you lead them to their own decisions.
